Chaffee County is well known for having the highest concentration of 14’s in North America. For two hours In every direction you will find the most incredibly diverse mountainous backcountry with its streams, canyons, rugged alpine peaks, rolling grass lands, rivers, deep forests, fields of flowers, dunes, deserts, and lakes. 

There are so many ways to appreciate the outdoors here, you could never fit it all in one visit. Our epic back country offers everything from relaxing activities like, fly fishing and ice fishing, floating the river, soaking in hot springs, and hiking. For the more extreme sportsman, skiing, dirt biking, rafting, off-roading, hang gliding, mountain biking, and rock climbing, to name a few. Allen House sits right at the crossroads of it all. To the west is Monarch mountain ski resort, and endless miles of deep wilderness. To the north are the Collegiate Peaks and the entrance to a giant backcountry sports mecca, Taylor Park. To the east are canyons and deserts that offer year ‘round summer sports opportunities, and to the south is The San Luis Valley, home of Colorado’s Sand Dune National Park, tallest Dunes in North America.
